Description
Product Overview
Chaga has traditionally been prepared as a slow-simmered decoction, often brewed gently for extended periods and reused across multiple preparations.
These whole Chaga chunks are left largely intact, requiring the user to engage more fully in the preparation process. This approach reflects the most traditional way Chaga has historically been worked with, where time, heat, and patience are central to the method.
Wild Chaga Whole Chunks are offered as a minimally handled ingredient for those who value traditional preparation, physical engagement with the material, and a slower relationship with the mushroom.
Wild Chaga Whole Chunks offer the most traditional, hands-on preparation, while TeaCUT Chaga is coarsely cut to make everyday brewing easier.
Below are features and benefits of our Chaga:
- Wild Chaga in whole, larger chunks
- Least processed format available
- Intended for long, slow decoction
- Requires hands-on preparation
- Suitable for repeated use across multiple brews
Preparation Time & Method
Wild Chaga Whole Chunks are intended for slow, traditional preparation and are not suitable for quick brewing.
Traditionally, whole chunks are gently simmered in water for several hours, and in some cases for much longer, depending on preference and routine. Due to their size and density, the chunks release gradually and benefit from extended heat.
Preparation weight:
A common starting point is 5–10g of Chaga chunks per litre of water. This is not fixed and is often adjusted over time based on experience and taste.
The same chunks are commonly reused many times, with each brew slowly diminishing in colour and character. Some people keep a decoction going across several days, adding water as needed.
Traditional Context
In traditional contexts, Chaga was most often used in its whole or minimally broken form, simmered slowly and incorporated into daily or seasonal routines.
Rather than being approached as a product for immediate effects, whole Chaga was valued as a long-term, grounding presence, particularly in colder climates where slow, warming preparations were common.
Traditionally, whole Chaga has been associated with:
- Long-term resilience rather than quick outcomes
- Slow, patient preparation
- Seasonal and daily ritual use
- A non-stimulating, steady character
The use of whole chunks reflects a relationship with Chaga that prioritises time, repetition, and attentiveness.
The Birch Relationship & Slow Growth
Traditionally, Chaga has been valued not only for how it is prepared, but for how slowly it forms. Growing over many years on living birch trees, Chaga develops through a long interaction with its host rather than as a quick, seasonal fruit.
This extended growth cycle is one of the reasons Chaga has historically been wild-harvested and prepared patiently through long simmering rather than quick methods.
This may be suitable for you if:

This may not be suitable if:
